01 · The challenge
More than 100 million people speak Yoruba, Hausa, or Igbo, yet these languages are still poorly served by most software. Developers building for African users lack a simple, open API to translate and converse in their languages.
02 · The solution
Arestechub built Terngi AI as an open-source, self-hostable translation and conversation API:
- Translation and AI chat across 96 languages, including 27 African languages
- An AI agent endpoint that uses translation, language detection, and other tools
- Multiple providers in one API: Azure Translator, Groq, OpenAI-compatible models, and more, with automatic failover
- MORENA, a free African-language model you can run locally
- Automatic language detection, translation caching, API keys, and rate limiting
03 · The metrics
- 96 supported languages
- 27 African languages, including Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo, Nigerian Pidgin, Swahili, Amharic, and isiZulu
- MIT-licensed and open to contributions from native speakers and developers
